- Purchased base for this costume component, and 6 packs of Dye. The first time we dyed it, we mixed in 2 packs of dye with 1 cup of sugar, mixed for 30 minutes in hot water, then rinse with a hose and let air dry. I washed it without soap the next day and it faded A LOT. I dyed it a second time with 1 tablespoon of detergent, mixed 30 minutes in hot water and rinsed again. Washed it again after a week and it faded again but not quite as much.
